When one of my children had their teeth pulled a few years back, one side of their face swelled up causing excruciating pain. We visited the doctor and kept this child on a round of pain medicine and ice for days, but still nothing improved.
For a week he’d wake up in the middle of the night crying from pain and I’d get out of bed, give him more medicine and hold him until the pain subsided.
We were all exhausted. He was and I was. But even more my heart hurt for the pain he went through. One night as he cried in pain in my arms, I had this thought, “Becky, you have the power in you. Command this to heal.”
It took me by surprise. Wasn’t that blasphemous? I had been told that women didn’t have that kind of power, and yet I knew and trusted the voice that spoke to me.
So in my head I commanded the pain to heal. I felt very clearly that that prayer sent into motion very real healing that would begin. And immediately after I said amen in my head, my child stopped crying. We had quiet for about 30 seconds until he started to lightly cry again.
I didn’t tell anyone about this experience because…isn’t it obvious…it’s weird to a lot of people. Maybe even crazy. How dare I…but some get it. Some understand. And my child begin to truly heal after that point and in a few days his swelling was back to almost normal.
I keep getting to practice to listening to the voice inside and the voice of God. I get to practice discerning who talks to me. And I’ll admit, it takes courage.
We truly have power from God within each one of us.
