Not being seen

The ache of not being seen

When I stopped going to church years ago the loneliness and feeling alone was more difficult than I can describe.

Even though I knew that I was following God one – hundred percent, feeling that others close to me couldn’t see that was heartbreaking.

To them I was walking away, stepping away from my childhood and cornerstone faith and going towards who knows what.

To me, I was walking away and stepping away from that, but I was walking with and toward God.

The pain of stepping away from a community, belief system, and relationships that were so intertwined with the church left grief and pain that I can’t describe.

But you do heal.  You get stronger and better with all the ups and downs.  And if you’re following your heart, the light, or God, you are having courage.  It takes a lot to do something out of the norm from your family or society or a community.  It’s hard.

I love a quote I read once.  “What lies ahead is better than what you left behind.”
